Network connection problem

My new Genie box is not connecting to the network. I can see it on my router/switch, so I know the static IP address I gave it is correct and it has physical connections but I'm getting errors and I haven't found a translation of the various error codes.

Is there a way to hide recorded content on DVR playlist, or set up different playlists that are separate from each other to prevent one person from erasing content from another list?

Samsung RVU connection lost and server session closed errors

On Thursday I installed a Samsung UN32H5500 TV using the RVU client to access my HR44 Genie.  The connection is via ethernet without DECAs.  The ethernet connection is using Cat 5e structural wiring and Cat 6 patch cables through a managed switch.  The TV and Genie have both negotiated a 100 Mbit rate with the switch.  Those two legs of the network are not used beyond DirecTV traffic.  I followed the onscreen instructions from Samsung to authorize the RVU client and called DirecTV to have it activated.  The TV and Genie are both using the latest software.

On Thursday it worked great until the evening when I believe my daughter experienced the first cycle of black screen, Smart TV Logo, RVU Connection Lost Dialog, RVU Server Session Closed Dialog, play last selected channel.  On Friday this cycle occurred randomly between every thirty seconds and every fifteen minutes.  The red power light on the TV blinks while this cycle occurs.

I called Samsung three times and am waiting for a call back from second level.

I called DirecTV who suggested connecting a DECA to the back of the TV.  I do not have coax in the room the RVU is in.

I tried resetting the Genie, via the onscreen menu twice.

I tried resetting the TV via unplugging the power cord twice.

I tried resetting the TV to factory defaults twice.

I tried connecting the Genie via a DECA.  That broke all network connectivity.

I tried swapping network cables at various points.

I tried isolating the Genie and RVU on their own network switches.

I have other DirecTV receivers that are able to access whole home content without any problem via coax connections.

The lost connection reset cycle occurs when other sources such as the unused cable TV input are selected.  The reset cycle interrupts the ability to access the TVs menus.  Does anyone know if this is normal or is an indication of a failure in the TV?  It seems like the TV reboots when the RVU connection is lost.  But it is doing so when the RVU client is not in use.

I would very much appreciate any suggestions on how to get this working.  Thank you.

Genie and Autotune

I just upgraded my home DVR from to a Genie system, we had two TV's one a DVR and one just an HD receiver. The HD receiver had auto tune on it which was a great feature for watching TV. I have found out here (on this board) that Genie does not support auto tune and the logic is "you can record anything you want and watch it later" Well if anyone in the software division is reading customer feed back, that's not good logic. The capability is distinctly different and quite valuable (just search this board for comments on it). If you do have a place for customer feedback on updates , please consider this a vote to add auto tune capabilities to your Genie enabled system. Its a very nice feature and different from the recording features.

p.s. other than this one issue , and some difficulty in getting the initial installation online, I very much like the Genie, so congrats on that.

Ongoing; "DVR has been disconnected from your home network. The playlist is no longer available" (for both hd receivers)

I'm having the same problem as many of the people posting here during the past 3 to 5 days (my two HD22's trying to run recordings off the main DVR). Runs, then stops and states "DVR has been disconnected from your home network. The playlist is no longer available". Then I went into the menu to check Whole House DVR status, it states "No network DVRs found". All was fine up until several days ago. To fix this problem I always have to go back into the menu and reconnect the service. But it doesn't last long. Everytime I try to run the same or another recorded program it does the same thing. So its really worthless resetting it. Again, all was fine up until a few days ago. Based on what I've read throughout this forum, this may be software related. As with others, this does not happen on the DVR itself and my router is fine. And I've followed all the suggested fixes thoughout this forum as well. Hope a solution is forthcoming from Directv (firmware update?).  And to note, both of them will do this at the same time.  Even if your not watching a recording.  Watching live tv only.  The disconnect message randomly pops up on the screen.  Both tv's.  Dvr itself, ok.  Guaranteed to do this every day and every time one tries to run something or while watching live tv.  Any ideas for fix?  Thanks much!

This program can't be played because too many recordings are being watched from playlist

I have a HR24 DVR in my basement, a HR 24 DVR in our living room and an HR25 HD receiver in our bedroom. All recordings are on our basement DVR, because we just recently added the living room DVR. My son was watching a show on the bedroom receiver recorded on the basement DVR. I tried to watch a differentshow in the living room that was recorded on the basement DVR and got the message "This program can't be played because too many recordings are being watched from playlist".  I can view all of the recordings from the basement DVR on my living room DVR, but each one had a red and white circle next to it.  I went to the basement and everything on the playlist was visible and able to be played.

Is there a fix for this?

Cost for Upgrading to Genie

We currently have an HR21-700 on the main TV and a H21-200 in the bedroom. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Genie. I'd like to know how much this will cost me both upfront for equipment and for monthly service. Thanks.

Genie: pixelated/stuttered/frozen playback of recorded news show

$

Strange issue here - but it sounds like DIrecTV is aware of the issue after speaking to technical support tonight.  I'm posting to see if anyone else is seeing the same pattern to this issue.

Equipment:  Genie HR34-700 whole home DVR with 5 minis.

Problem:  We automatically record the channel 2 news (KTVU) at 10:00pm every night in Oakland, CA and watch it delayed.  When watching the playback of the recordings, sections of the news will freeze, stutter and pixelate with audio completely dropped out.  We have not noticed this when watching the news live - just on playback of the recording - either through pausing or playing the recording from the "list."  It happens both on the main DVR and on the minis.  Resetting the devices does not change the situation.  We also have not noticed it on other programs we record on the same station - like football games.

My hard drive is fine.

Live playback appears fine.

Recorded playback of this one particular program, the KTVU channel 2 news, has the problem.

More strangely:  During the playback of the news, the problem never happens during commercials on the news or when the news is broadcasting the main studio cameras (it happens rarely on the weather studio cameras).  It seems to mostly happen when the news cuts to live cameras in the field.  And it happens during just about every segment that cuts to a field camera.

It feels like there is some sort of strange incompatibility with the field cameras and how they are fed to DirecTV and encoded by the DVR when recorded.  Otherwise, this would happen with the studio cameras, commercials, and also when live.

Since our recorded news is basically unwatchable now, I really would like this solved.  The person I spoke with at DirecTV tech support tonight said they are aware of this issue and engineers are working on it, but they don't know when it will be fixed.  I've had my genie setup for almost a year, and this issue just started about 6 weeks ago, so it seems like a software problem DirecTV introduced somewhere.  Tech support was not familiar with the pattern I described of this happening only during field camera segments.

Anyone else noticing patterns to this?  Maybe we can help the engineers fix this if they get enough details.  Very frustrating - and if it persists I fear we'll have to switch to cableTV (which I don't want to do).

Googling around, I found other forums discussing similar type issues.  Some of those claimed the issue is more likely on an HR34-700, but I have no way to verify if another model would be better.

Thanks!
